Big Horn Basin Counseling Services Review
Big Horn Basin Counseling Services is a private, nonprofit organization that offers outpatient substance abuse and mental health services in north-central Wyoming. With multiple locations in Basin, Thermopolis and Lovell, clients can find a facility near their home.
Treatment and Staff
Big Horn Basin Counseling Services offers outpatient services for adults over the age of 18 only. While detox services are not available, referrals to outside facilities can be made when necessary. Treatment at Big Horn begins with a comprehensive psychological assessment. Dual diagnosis support is provided for those with co-occurring disorders.
The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) meets for group therapy three times a week, for three hours at a time. Clients participate in individual therapy once a week and family therapy when needed. Groups are kept on the small side, maxing out at 10 clients per group. Group topics include trauma, processing feelings, stress management, life skills and anger management. Evidence-based modalities such as CBT and DBT are often used. Clients can add on additional individual therapy sessions when needed.
Once IOP has been completed, clients are able to step down into the regular outpatient program that meets once a week, for a one-hour session. The focus of this program is entirely on group therapy, placing a heavy emphasis on relapse prevention. With the help of their counselors and peers, participants track progress and address any areas that they are struggling with. When the outpatient program is completed, a continuing care monthly group is available.
In addition to having the structured outpatient programs, clients can come to Big Horn Counseling for help on an individual, group or family basis.
The staff includes CSACs and LCSWs.
Extras
Big Horn Counseling offers an anger management program that meets weekly for two hours of group therapy and education. Additionally, there is a specialized MRT group that is open to those in all phases of substance abuse treatment.
