Bienestar Review
Bienestar is a non-profit community-based service organization established in 1989. With nine facilities located in Los Angeles, California, this organization specifically serves the Latino community and under-served populations in Southern California. For individuals seeking substance abuse support, Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and syringe exchange programs are available, as is support for co-occurring disorders.
Treatment and Staff
Bienestar offers outpatient treatment for substance abuse. Though the organization does not offer detox at any of its facilities, referrals are provided as necessary.
The 20-week adult IOP offers a high level of support, meeting three times a week for one hour each session. The group is combined with the mental health IOP, allowing clients to receive dual diagnosis care as needed. Using evidence-based therapies such as CBT and DBT, the program employs individual and group therapy. Topics often include relapse prevention, coping skills, early recovery skills and anger management. The program also includes weekly urinalysis testing. Referrals to local 12-step meetings in the community can be provided upon request, though clients are not required to attend AA/NA while in treatment. Still, participation is encouraged.
The staff consists of psychologists, psychiatrists, interns and LADCs. Groups max out at 40 clients at a time.
Extras
Bienestar also offers therapy for stand-alone mental health issues. The organization also has a food bank, a syringe exchange program (which provides needle cleaning kits, safe sex supplies and health education materials), on-site case management, HIV Counseling and testing, hepatitis screening referrals and medical care referrals.
In Summary
In all, Bienestar offers comprehensive care to treat those with addiction and a range of other issues. The facility’s IOP treats chemical dependency as well as co-occurring disorders, all in addition to a wide range of services to support local LA communities in need. Because this program is free of cost, recovery is available to all who want to enroll.
