BHcareThe Basics

BHcare offers comprehensive substance abuse, behavioral health and domestic violence services for adults. Under the care of highly trained professionals, the clients who receive these outpatient-based services are in great hands. This organization has several locations throughout Connecticut—in North Haven, Ansonia and Bradford. BHcare specializes in dual diagnosis support. Whether a client needs therapy, medication or a combination of both, this organization can deliver.

Treatment and Staff

BHcare offers a variety of outpatient treatments such as individual and group therapy, substance abuse education, dual diagnosis support and medication management. Depending on the client, some combination of these services may be recommended or they will be referred to the Intensive Outpatient (IOP) program, which includes all of the above. Following an initial evaluation that takes a person’s biological, psychological, environmental and social needs into account, an individualized treatment plan is developed. BHcare does not offer detox but they can provide referrals, if necessary.

The IOP program offers a high level of support, with four specialized tracks to choose from: DBT skills training, dual diagnosis, symptom management and substance abuse. This program meets three to five days a week, for three-hour sessions. Usually, a treatment plan is mapped out to span a period of eight to 12 weeks total. Most of the treatment consists of group therapy, with topics including mental health, relapse prevention, coping skills, trauma and anger management. Individual therapy is offered once a week with the client’s primary therapist.

The beauty of this program is that they offer comprehensive dual diagnosis support. With a team that includes CSACs, psychiatrists and psychiatric nurses, intense therapy in combination with medication management is provided.

Extras

BHcareProject Safe, which offers assistance for the primary caregivers of children in contact with the Department of Children and Families. The services may include evaluations, drug screens and outpatient treatment. On-site and mobile crisis services for clients suffering from severe mental health episodes, 24 hours a day are also available.

Counseling services available in Spanish include mental health counseling, dual diagnosis counseling, substance abuse treatment and group therapy.

A tobacco cessation program is available that includes group therapy, nicotine replacements and medication.

In Summary

BHcare uses evidence-based techniques to tackle both substance abuse and mental health issues. With access to dual diagnosis support, clients who struggle with depression and anxiety can find relief. Thanks to the affordable, well-rounded outpatient program, this organization can help clients embrace sobriety while receiving he highest level of care for their other issues, as well.

Bh Care in Branford specializes in Rehabilitation for substance abuse clients. I took my husband there after telling the staff that he had Dementia. Instead of being honest about the fact that they are unqualified to treat this disease., he wasted six months getting no help at all. I want to warn people who are looking for help for their loved ones who suffer from dementia to stay away from Bh Care, Go to the Adler Center, part of Yale University or explore the option Of Geriatric and Adult Psychiatry, at 60 Washington Ave in Hamden, CT. Dr. Mercer was able to correct changes made to his medications by an unqualified APRN at BhCare and instead of being in a group therapy with two women, a total waste of time, he has a one on one therapist, trained in dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Thank God he is finally getting the help he needs. This facility misrepresented themselves for the sake of just adding more clients to their roster for money. Very unethical!!!!
