Bevill and Associates Review
Al Bevill is an LPC who specializes in marriage and family counseling, with an emphasis on treating those who exhibit unhealthy sexual behaviors, infidelity or have sexual compulsions such as porn addiction or sex addictions. Prior to opening his private practice, Bevill and Associates, Bevill was a Christian minister, which has resulted in a spiritual element to all of his services. Located in Birmingham, Alabama, this practice has been serving the community for over four years, and offers individual, couples and family counseling services that are private, confidential and caring.
Treatment and Staff
Bevill and his team of clinicians offers treatment to adolescents and young adults who are between the ages of 14 and 19, along with adults. Though most of the services offered through this facility are individual therapy based, there are some opportunities for group sessions. One is called Facing The Shadow, and is a men’s only sex addiction group that meets every other week on Wednesday and Thursday evenings for an hour and a half. This group uses educational and experiential modalities so clients can begin to recognize their behaviors and start identifying triggers. This group introduces the Task Centered approach and offers alternative ways to handle this addiction.
Additionally, Bevill and Associates offers a group specifically for adult males who have been incarcerated due to sexual misconduct. This is a group that is mainly based on referrals and all incoming clientele need to be interviewed prior to admission. The Sex Offender Treatment group, or SOT, meets weekly and is ongoing. The main objective of this group is to prevent relapses by offering coping mechanisms.
Other therapeutic modalities used in counseling sessions includes Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), CBT, DBT, Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) relational approaches, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Trauma Focused Therapy.
In addition to Al Bevill himself, the other counselors at Bevill and Associates are Master’s level clinicians who are LPC with specializations in sexual addiction.
