Bethesda Oak Alcohol and Drug Treatment Program Review

Bethesda Oak Alcohol and Drug Treatment Program is a sister facility to the Bethesda Blue Ash Treatment Program in Cincinnati, Ohio. Founded in 1978, and operated under the umbrella of the TriHealth network, Bethesda Oak is the oldest, most established private hospital drug and alcohol treatment center in Cincinnati. Bethesda Oak offers detox and outpatient services for adults with substance abuse issues and co-occurring disorders.

Treatment and Staff

Admission to the Bethesda Oak program begins with an assessment, where it is determined what level of care a client needs. Those requiring 24-hour supervision are referred out to the appropriate residential program. Treatment at Bethesda Oaks often begins with an ambulatory (outpatient) detox for alcohol or opiates that uses Suboxone.

In its entirety, outpatient treatment at Bethesda Oak is 14 weeks. The most structured level of care is the Intensive Outpatient Program ( IOP). IOP at Bethesda Oaks is six to eight weeks long, depending on the client. At this level, clients attend individual therapy once a week and group therapy at least three times a week, for three hours at a time.

The foundation of the Bethesda Oak program is the 12 steps. While there are no meetings held at the hospital, clients learn about 12-step philosophy in group and are expected to attend at least two meetings on their own during the week.

Once clients step-down into the regular outpatient program, they only meet once a week for group and schedule individual sessions as needed. All clients care expected to continue attending 12-step meetings, to get a sponsor and to work the steps.

Most of the current staff members have worked at Bethesda Oak for 10 years or more. Doctors, psychiatrists, nurses and therapists are joined by LCDCs; many of these professionals have close to 20 years of experience in alcohol and drug treatment. In addition, the Bethesda Oak treatment program is certified by the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services.

Extras

Bethesda Oak offers an aftercare program, for an additional fee, for clients with co-occurring disorders. There is also the possibility of scheduling family therapy as part of a family program, when applicable.

In Summary

Bethesda Oak Alcohol and Drug Treatment Program offers basic outpatient treatment, with the added bonuses of detox and dual diagnosis support. This facility is said to have good working relationships with local residential facilities, which might be a comfort to a client needing 24-hour care following detox.
