Bethany Christian Services is a global non-profit agency that strives to serve families with a variety of programs. With a national network with branches in 36 states, the home office for BCS is located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The organization’s serves communities with adoption and foster care assistance, pregnancy counseling and addiction treatment with special services assisting refugees and immigrants who are resettling in the U.S.. partnering with agencies in several international countries to help keep families together.
The substance abuse and behavioral health programs offered by BCS provide evidence based treatment via individual, group and family therapy. Through individualized treatment plans and small group sizes, BCS helps clients and families create a path to sobriety.
Treatment and Staff
BCS provides treatment for adults and adolescents using traditional talk therapy in both group and individual settings that addresses mental and behavioral health and various addiction-related afflictions. Following an initial evaluation, clients develop a schedule with their counselor consisting of group and individual therapy sessions. Referrals to area detox and residential programs are given upon request.
Individual sessions last an hour under the guidance of a counselor certified to also assist with co-occurring mental health concerns. One-on-one sessions are typically scheduled once a week, though clients requiring more support may schedule additional sessions. While clients don’t need to be a Christian to receive services, faith is often discussed.
Group sessions use evidence-based therapies such as CBT and DBT. Topics covered include coping skills, communication and relapse prevention. The staff consists of LADCs, with groups usually limited to between three and eight people at a time.
Extras
All of the US BSC facilities provide pregnancy, individual, group and family therapy, as well adoption services with a handful of offices also providing foster care programs. Internationally, BCS provides adoption and foster care services in countries such as China and Ethiopia. There is also a sponsorship program that supports children and families overseas.
Bethany’s House offers supportive living for pregnant women 18 and over. The home includes prenatal care and childbirth preparation, help with day to day needs and planning for the future. The women are encouraged to work, attend school or volunteer while living in home.
The residential program is for adolescent males, between the ages of 10 and 17. This home-like setting offers comprehensive treatment for sex offenders or those who have demonstrated sexually aggressive or inappropriate behaviors.
