Treatment and Staff
The evidence-based treatment at Bellwood begins with a thorough assessment of the clients individualized needs. The program typically lasts about six weeks, during which time clients participate in a number of group and individual therapy sessions, psychoeducation, nutrition and exercise and relapse prevention. The programs are designed as a step down phased treatment that can result in a continuing care or outpatient treatment.
The treatment includes CBT, an introduction to the 12 steps and life skills training. Depending on the level of care needed, medical staff is available 24 hours a day and can offer medication management or Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) services. There is a holistic aspect to treatment as well, with daily guided meditation and relaxation techniques offered in conjunction with clinical treatments. The large and multi disciplinary treatment team consists of medical and clinical staff with vast experience in addiction treatment, including Master’s-level LCSWs, LPCs, psychiatrists, physicians and LPNs.
Extras
There is an on-site gym with cardio machines and weights and weekly instructor-led fitness classes like yoga or circuit training. Clients also participate in outdoor recreational activities like volleyball or softball. A rec room with ping-pong table and air hockey helps clients fill the moments between meetings or during family visitation, and additional options like massage therapy or acupuncture are also available. There are also weekly trips out of the facility that are lead by a staff member where clients head into Toronto and take in a movie or a museum.
Family and couples counseling services are available on an individualized basis. A four-day family intensive and education day is provided for all family members. There is a yearlong aftercare program consisting of monthly meetings that is offered to all clients and their families.
