Originally started as an orphanage in the 1860’s, Bellefaire JCB of Cleveland, Ohio is now known as one of the country’s leading child advocacy programs. The facility provides both residential and outpatient services to those between the ages of 11 and 18. Treatment is available for co-occurring disorders and behavioral health concerns, using evidence-based treatment practices.
Accommodations and Food
Bellefaire’s residential location is in Shaker Heights, Ohio, just outside of Cleveland. The facility is situated in a campus-like setting on a tree-lined street in a quiet and peaceful neighborhood with paved walking paths and benches. The large brick building houses up to 90 residents. Clients can participate in four different levels of care, including crisis care and a transitional living program for those aged 16 to 22.
There are both single and double rooms available with private bathrooms with showers. The rooms are furnished with dressers, a closet and a small desk. The facility also has shared areas, offices, therapeutic rooms and a newly renovated indoor pool. Though clients participating in the co-occurring disorders programs primarily remain on the property throughout treatment, the facility is also close to several restaurants, shopping centers, grocery stores and movie theaters. There are recreational activities and exercise options integrated into the daily routines.
Meals are provided at the facility with all residents required to help with food preparation and serving. The food provided at Bellefaire generally consists of healthy choices, including fresh vegetables, fruit and organic options whenever possible.
Treatment and Staff
All treatment at Bellefaire is individualized and evidence-based with elements of the 12 steps incorporated. Every client receives an initial assessment to determine a diagnosis before treatment plans are implemented. There are no time requirements or minimum stays for any of the programs at Bellefaire.
Treatment includes several group and individual therapy sessions per week, medication management and psychoeducation. Once it’s determined that a client is ready to move out of the facility, Bellefaire also offers in-home and school counseling as a step down option. Alums can also continue with outpatient care on-site at the facility. Outpatient programs are only available to those involved with either the residential program or foster care services. Generally clients continue to work with the therapist they are originally assigned for the duration of treatment. After formal treatment ends, counselors still do occasional home check-ins with clients and their families.
Therapy methods are client-oriented and focused on results using CBT, DBT, art and music therapy. Relapse prevention, anger management and coping skills are also covered in group therapy sessions. Master’s-level LCSWs, caseworkers, psychiatrists and therapists who are dually trained in addiction and behavioral health make up the staff.
Aside from the above, Bellefaire also provides foster care, adoption and homeless outreach services. The facility participates in the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program as well as in-school counseling and prevention programs. In-home and on-site family counseling is also available.
Bellefaire JCB is a special program providing young clients and their families a strong support system of caring professionals. The youth advocacy programs at this facility give the clients and their families hope for a bright future, and treatment includes a good mix of proven therapies and 12-step support. In all, Bellefaire JCB is a strong resource for those seeking substance abuse and addiction treatment in Ohio.
