The Basics

The Bella Vita is a broad organization with a number of facilities throughout Southern California, all providing flexible treatment programs to clients struggling with eating disorders and related behavioral health issues. In addition to its various outpatient and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) options, the organization also provides residential treatment to adults and adolescents at a location in the upscale suburb of Thousand Oaks, which is about 30 miles north of Los Angeles.

Accommodations and Food

The Thousand Oaks home is The Bella Passione, a country-style manor with brickwork throughout and a total of six beds available for residents. During their stay, all clients sleep in shared bedrooms with one other roommate—each room comes with full beds, end tables and storage space. In addition to the bedrooms, the house also features a spacious living room with couches, cable TV and WiFi throughout, a dining room, quiet meditation areas and a fully-equipped kitchen. Surrounding the home are tall oak trees, lemon trees and rose bushes. The home also includes an outdoor patio area and a jacuzzi. Throughout the program, all residents are served three healthy meals a day designed by on-site chefs and dietitians.

Treatment and Staff

Before beginning treatment, all clients go through an initial intake and assessment process to help staff members develop their care plans. Though on-site detox services are not available, those in need can get referrals to nearby programs as necessary. Once stabilized, all residents attend full days of care which include individual and group therapy rooted in evidence-based treatment practices. Modalities may vary though both CBT and DBT are included.

Daily groups cover many topics including healthy body image, self-esteem, trauma, emotional processing and psychoeducation. To address eating disorders, clients also go through a regimen of fitness training, nutritional counseling, cooking classes and gradual exposure therapy as well—this may include trips to the grocery store, experience with triggering foods and other food-related experiences.

As mentioned, dual diagnosis support is also available including medication management. While 12-step participation is not required, those seeking additional peer support services can get referrals to nearby programs as necessary. The staff at The Bella Vita Thousand Oaks consists of RNs, LPCs, psychiatrists, psychologists, LMFTs, LCSWs, dietitians and additional Master’s-level clinicians.

Extras

Other bonus features include an outdoor putting green which clients can use to blow off steam during downtime. Treatment also includes some holistic therapy methods including yoga, meditation, mindfulness training and art therapy. Standalone family therapy and psychological testing services are also available. Finally, those in need of stepped down aftercare services can work with staff members to develop these programs as well. The organization also has another residential treatment program in nearby La Cañada Flintridge.

In Summary

Overall, The Bella Vita’s residential program in Thousand Oaks is a well-rounded treatment option for clients seeking recovery for eating disorders. Treatment includes evidence-based care, holistic therapy, dual diagnosis support, nutritional counseling and other flexible services. While the cost of these programs may vary depending on each participant’s insurance, those in the area would do well by considering The Bella Vita Thousand Oaks.
