Bear River Health at Walloon Lake Outpatient Review
Bear River Health is situated on five acres next to Walloon Lake in Michigan. It is an addition and co-occurring disorder treatment facility that offers comprehensive programming including inpatient and outpatient services. The outpatient tracks consist of a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) that incorporate the 12 steps along with evidence-based therapeutic approaches. Clients receive individualized treatment plans while attending a structured daily schedule of group and individual therapy addressing relapse prevention and life skills techniques.
Treatment and Staff
The outpatient tracks are ideal step-down programs for those who have recently been discharged from the inpatient program at Bear River. The PHP is an all day program that includes a lot of the elements of the residential program minus the overnight stay. Clients attend a series of group sessions on a daily basis that cover topics like anger management, communication, vocational and educational options and stress management. There are weekly hour long individual sessions that utilize evidence-based approaches like CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI), mindfulness, and holistic methods like art and music therapy.
The IOP is a step-down from the PHP and requires approximately nine hours of treatment per week within three hour sessions, three times weekly. The IT also offers client focused treatment but emphasizes the aftercare planning and reacclimating into the clients’ communities while dealing with triggers.
There are specialized tracks for those with a dual diagnosis that offers regular medication management. Additionally, there are some open evening group therapy sessions, such as the Wellbriety Talking Circle, which is a Tuesday night event, and the Chanting and Guided Meditation group that meets Thursday evenings. These groups are optional to all clients and there isn’t a set amount of these groups anyone has to attend.
The staff of Bear River at Walloon Lake is a multidisciplinary team of addiction specialists. There are medical doctors, nurses, CADCs, LMFTs, LCSWs, behavioral health techs and support staff.
Extras
There is an extended aftercare support system put in place at Bear River that includes an alumni program that meets on occasion. Clients can also expect a family program offering regular group therapy sessions, and couples counseling.
