Beachfront Recovery Review
Beachfront Recovery is a co-ed, 12-step based sober living facility located on Silverstrand beach, in Ventura County, California. Beachfront has been open 2011 and provides shared rooms only. Clients to sign a contract prior to moving in that states they will not drink, use drugs or sleep in a room with members of the opposite sex.
Accommodations and Amenities
Beachfront never houses more than seven clients at a time. There are five bedrooms and three bathrooms available on location and there is at least one bathroom designated exclusively to each sex, at a time. Apart from their room, each client gets a shared dresser and closet for their personal belongings. There are even flat screen TVs in each of the bedrooms, all equipped with cable.
The Beachfront facility also has an outdoor patio, a barbeque and dining area, a formal dining room with its own fireplace as well as a living room with a fireplace and large screen television. Beachfront is walking distance to a variety of shops, restaurants and fitness facilities and in close proximity to public transportation. The entire house is DSL equipped with provided wireless Internet access. There are free laundry facilities. As Beachfront is located right on the beach some of the AA/NA meetings take place there while the house also provides bikes and surf boards to those clients who wish to use them.
There is a fully equipped kitchen for clients to use. The house provides what it considers basic necessities, such as eggs and cereal and clients receive a $60 food card every Monday, which they use to then go buy any additional food and contribute to the night time meal. There is no chef; instead clients learn to cook for themselves.
Rules and Regulations
Required length of stay at Beachfront is at least four weeks. AA/NA meetings are mandatory for those who live at at Beachfront and several are provided on site, in the house as well as literally on the sand. Clients not only must attend these meetings but must also have a sponsor and make sure to attend all administrative house meetings. There is random drug testing implemented and there is a zero tolerance policy for positive tests, but apart from that Beachfront is a very relaxed, family environment. There is an enforced wake up time of 8:30 am and a curfew of 10:30 pm. Besides the owner, Beachfront employs a full time staff of two who are on location 24/7 and are also in recovery.
Extras
Transportation to meetings and appointments is provided. Recreational activities such as hiking, surfing, yoga, meditation, classes on life skills, nutrition classes, and more are also provided.
In Summary
Beachfront Recovery provides comfortable accommodations and plentiful activities to their clients. For those on a tight budget or who are uncomfortable with a co-ed environment, this wouldn’t be a good fit. However, the peaceful seaside location is perfect for those that are looking to maintain their sobriety on the beach, with a little bit of help.
