Baylor Scott and White Medical Center Review
For over 20 years Baylor Scott and White Medical Center has provided health and wellness services as a “Christian ministry of healing”. Based in Fort Worth, Texas, BSW also provides a selection of behavioral and outpatient substance abuse services. Apart from treatment for depression and a psychiatric Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), BSW offers a dual diagnosis supported PHP for clients with addiction issues and co-occurring disorders and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP).
Treatment and Staff
The BSW PHP utilizes CBT in a group therapy format, education groups with daily nursing care and medication management. The program runs Monday through Friday, 10 am to 5 pm and lasts a total of four weeks. A primary therapist introduces clients to the 12-step recovery philosophy. Dual-diagnosis group meetings are arranged so that clients are grouped together in a peer supportive environment.
BSW also offers a weekly family group that includes relatives and loved ones. Relapse prevention and on-site 12-step AA/NA meetings are also available.
The PHP track functions like day treatment with clients commuting to the treatment center in the morning and returning to their own homes at the end of the day’s treatment. PHP clients may step down into the IOP where they can continue receiving support in the form of therapy for three hours a day. Both the PHP and IOP include an aftercare group for continued support .
BSW’s three therapists have been with BSW over five years with one heading the psychological PHP, one leading the dual-diagnosis PHP and the third in charge of the IOP. BSW also employs a visiting psychiatrist.
