Bayberry Cottages Review
Situated minutes away from the Birmingham airport and train station in Coleshill, Warwickshire, Bayberry Cottages is an upscale detox and residential treatment facility that specializes in the care of clients struggling with substance use disorders as well as individuals with co-occurring disorders anxiety, depression or other “process” addictions like internet, pornography or gambling. The Cottages is licensed through the CQC and offers a full continuum of care that includes two years of aftercare following completion of residential treatment. The individualized program integrates holistic, evidence-based and complementary therapies along with medication management. The 12-step method is not a part of the programming.
Accommodations and Food
Situated on the same exclusive retreat as the network’s flagship facility, Bayberry Manor, the Cottages boast a beautiful surrounding courtyard with fields and views of distant woodlands. With only two “sleeping” cottages and 10 residents at a time, the serene atmosphere is both familial and private. The gender-specific cottages are equipped with three private and semi-private bedrooms, a comfortable lounge and a kitchen. Groom’s Cottage is for female clients, with two shared bedrooms located upstairs and a private single on the ground floor. Clients enjoy comfortable beds and high pitched ceilings that bring in plenty of light. The bedrooms in the Coach House are for male clients and set up in a similar fashion, with a contemporary style and comfortable sofas.
Two other cottages are home to the medical facilities as well as a communal kitchen, lounge and dining room, group therapy areas and an art studio. The common room is equipped with plenty of natural sunlight, lush furnishings and a flatscreen TV with a dvd player.
Residents eat together in the communal dining room, and are responsible for preparing the meals. A healthy menu is created by a chef and nutritionist, and fresh vegetables are taken from the estate gardens. Typically clients are joined at meals by a therapist and some of the support staff.
Treatment and Staff
Residents being treatment at the Cottages with an intake evaluation performed by an onsite physician or psychiatrist. Based off of the assessment, the Cottage team develops a unique, individualized treatment program tailored to meet the needs of the client. Many clients immediately enter the detox program to rid the body of substances. While detox is often an uncomfortable time, the Cottages provides 24/7 medical supervision and medication to ease withdrawal symptoms. Typically clients are able to join the treatment program after three days of detox.
While the length of treatment is customizable and varies depending on the specific needs of the resident, the recommended stay at the Cottages is six weeks. The Cottages team provides a comprehensive and diverse treatment plan that includes an array of therapies. These include individual and group sessions with evidence-based methods like CBT and holistic methods like mindfulness meditation and life script to help clients better understand their own story. These are complemented by daily support and topic groups, weekly workshops on music, art and drama as well as nutrition counseling, yoga and acupuncture. EMDR is also used to treat past trauma as a causal component of current illnesses.
The treatment team dedicated solely to Bayberry Cottages is comprised of a psychiatrist, general practitioner, nursing team, therapists and a 24/7 support team. In addition, every resident is assigned a primary therapist that guides him or her throughout the recovery process. Medication management is available for clients in need of dual diagnosis support.
Extras
As part of the customized nature of the Bayberry programs, clients can pick and choose between various aspects of the treatment. For example, residents can choose to work with a nutritionist to create their own menu, cook with their peers or have meals created by an onsite chef.
The Cottages offers a family program seen as an integral component of the programming. Family members are invited to join in therapy sessions to help rebuild the core foundation. After completing the program, clients receive weekly aftercare for two years. This continued support focuses on guidance and relapse prevention.
Also, clients can choose ahead of time whether they would prefer unlimited visiting or structured weekly visiting hours.
