Since 1990, Barth & Associates has offered a wide variety of outpatient services for substance abuse to the residents of eastern Washington state. The organization was started in Yakima by Harry Barth, who passed away in 2014 with 49 years sober. Today, it is run by his son Jim Barth, who has over 30 years of experience working with drug and alcohol issues. Barth & Associates now boasts locations in small towns all over Washington’s Yakima Valley including Ellensburg, Zillah and White Swan, a community located on the Yakama Indian Reservation.
Treatment and Staff
Prior to entering a program, clients must undergo an initial assessment. The process usually takes 90 minutes and includes a structured diagnostic interview and a review of employment records, driving records, attendance reports, drug screen results, criminal history reports and family history. From there, an individualized treatment plan is formulated. For those needing a medically monitored detox, Barth & Associates provides the necessary referrals and placement in detox units or local hospitals, as well as medication management.
The nine- to 12-week Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) meets four times a week, for two-hour sessions. This includes one hour of individual therapy per week, in addition to group therapy. Topics include relapse prevention, trauma, processing, life skills and introduction to the 12 steps. Once IOP has been completed, clients can transition to the weekly continuing care program. This 26-week track meets once a week, for an hour and a half of group therapy.
The staff includes registered nurses, Bachelor’s-level therapists and CSACs.
Barth & Associates offers alcohol drug information school (ADIS), an eight- to 12-hour program that addresses issues relating to decision making, DUI laws and action plans for change. An employee assistance program is also available, offering evaluations, education training and referral support.
Barth & Associates is a registered vendor of Soberlink, a handheld device that remotely detects alcohol in the body. They also offer BluTag monitoring devices for those who are under house arrest, and Stalker Alert, a notifying system that can be used in connection with the BluTag device.
Barth & Associates has been helping people recover from addiction for 25 years. With an individualized approach to treatment and the 12 steps as a guide, clients are able to find a dose of serenity.
