Baranabus Health Outpatient Review
Located in Toms River, New Jersey, Barnabas Health Behavioral Health Center is a large behavioral health hospital. It operates as part of the RWJ Barnabus Health organization, a nonprofit that offers hospital services and runs clinics throughout New Jersey. In addition to residential care, Baranabus Health provides outpatient chemical dependency support for those who wish to live at home during treatment or need additional support after a residential stay. Like the inpatient track, outpatient programs are individualized and services can be designed to include as well as Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for those suffering from opiate withdrawal.
Treatment and Staff
Prior to being admitted, clients must have a general health and psychological screening which includes a bio-psycho-social assessment to determine the needs for medication or detox prior to treatment. Inpatient and outpatient detox options are available utilizing MAT with Suboxone. Clients are enrolled in either a Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) or a standard outpatient track as determined by the assessment process. MAT clients must enroll in the IOP level of care.
The IOP track, called Stepping Stones, meets three to five times a week, depending on the individual’s needs. Three and a half hour sessions are offered Mondays through Fridays, with both morning and afternoon sessions available for convenience. The standard outpatient track is a step down from IOP, meeting just one to two times per week. Sessions include both group and individual therapy and facilitated by mental health professionals with credentials to work with chemical dependency. Family therapy and medication management are also available.
The staff use CBT and DBT during therapy. Psychoeducation groups are available as well. Dual diagnosis support is available for clients with co-occurring mental health disorders. Specialized groups and additional individual sessions are offered to support overall recovery with medication monitored by a psychiatrist. Attendance at community 12-step meetings is encouraged.
Extras
Barnabus Health offers a range of services for their clients. If more intensive therapy is needed, referrals are provided to the inpatient facility. Special groups are also available for older adults. DUI counseling and assessments are available.
