Balance Health and Healing Review
Based out of Lindon, Utah, about 10 miles north of Provo, Balance Health and Healing is a small outpatient-based clinic that provides a range of individualized services for clients struggling with eating disorders and related behavioral health issues. The facility consists of a small team of certified professionals who offer treatment to individuals, couples and families alike.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning a program, all participants go through an initial intake and assessment process to help the staff determine their needs. While on-site detox and stabilization services are not available, those in need can get referrals to nearby programs as necessary. Though there is no standardized treatment regimen, all care plans are individualized and can suit any schedule.
All programs typically include a combination of individual and group therapy with evidence-based treatment practices including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), CBT, DBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Groups cover many different topics including emotional processing, coping skills, trigger identification, relapse prevention and communication skills. Because food is such an important part of eating disorder recovery, clients can also expect to work with staff members on exposure therapy, sometimes including cooking classes or trips to local restaurants to face problem foods. While 12-step participation is not strictly required, participants may be encouraged to attend meetings in some cases. While basic support for issues of anxiety, depression and trauma may be available, addiction is not a major focus. More comprehensive psychiatric and medical services are similarly not included.
The staff at Balance Health and Healing consists of Master’s-level counselors, Certified Eating Disorder Counselors (CEDS), LMFTs and additional support staff.
Extras
As mentioned, couples and family therapy are also available on a standalone basis as are basic clinical consultations. Some specialized therapy focuses include guidance on spiritual issues as well as help for families dealing with adoption-related issues. Participants finish a primary care plan can also work with the staff to develop step-down aftercare and discharge plans as well.
In Summary
Overall, Balance Health and Healing provides straightforward counseling services for individuals and families dealing with eating disorders and trauma-related issues. Treatment includes both individual and group therapy with a range of evidence-based practices, all provided by an intimate team of PhD-level counselors and clinicians. While anyone in need of medical supervision or stabilization may need to seek additional help elsewhere, Balance Health and Healing remains a strong resource for those in the area.
