Cheap rehabs in San Francisco, CABAART Programs Review

What started in San Francisco in 1977 as a service for heroin addicts, BAART Programs is now an extensive outpatient substance abuse treatment organization, treating clients across the country. Though many of the locations are still in California, it also has facilities in Arizona, Vermont, Nebraska and North Carolina. All programs are CARF-accredited and practice harm reduction rather than outright abstinence.

Treatment and Staff

BAART’s programs generally focus on the treatment of prescription opiate addiction, relying heavily on Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) via Methadone and Suboxone (which also encompasses the outpatient detox services). However, the programs also employ evidence-based modalities for behavioral counseling, medical care and mental health services to more than 6,500 people a day.

Those attending BAART’s outpatient or Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) are given a personalized care plan based on a treatment duration of anywhere from one to six months. Both programs are based on the Matrix Model and include family counseling as well as 12-step facilitation. Though individual programs differ and schedules are flexible depending on each client’s needs, all programs involve involve one to nine hours a week of individual and group therapy; in addition to psychosocial services, case management, Motivational Interviewing (MI), life skills education and relapse prevention. Random urinalysis and breathalyzer tests are conducted on a regular basis.

Though the number of employees at each location can vary, all facilities generally have physicians, RNs, Master’s-level counselors, LSWs and psychologists on staff.

Extras

BAART provides flexible aftercare plans for clients who have completed any of their programs. The organization also works with local government and educational groups to conduct research about drug addiction. This research can be used for sociological purposes or for the development of more effective treatment methods. Community outreach services such as HIV and HCV screenings are available as are Spanish-speaking services in some locations. BAART offers an employee assistance program for assessments, referrals, treatment and follow-up services as needed.

In Summary

While BAART Programs emphasize MAT over abstinence-based treatment, it gears its efforts towards harder cases—like chronic relapsers and intravenous drug users. To that end, the harm reduction approach has shown results in cutting down on social harms and fatalities caused by drug use. While BAART Programs may not be for everyone, they do provide affordable options for those in need.
