B. Riley Sober House in Cleveland, Ohio is an upscale hybrid outpatient and sober living facility for LGBTQ+ clients in the beginning phases of recovery from alcohol and substance use disorders. One of the few sober houses in the country to specialize in the LGBTQ+ community, B. Riley Sober House provides safe and stable transitional housing as well as a comprehensive Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). Founded in 2016, the facility employs a multifaceted approach to treatment that integrates an array of therapeutic methods including individual, couple, group and family therapy. While an in-house detox program is not offered, B. Riley does partner with many local programs for anyone who needs detox prior to beginning treatment. The 12-step recovery model is an integral component to programming.
Before starting treatment, clients undergo a comprehensive intake assessment that helps the team design the most effective personalized treatment program customized to meet the individual’s unique needs and goals.
The B. Riley Sober House has a flexible IOP for LGBTQ+ clients. With therapy on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, the IOP is ideal for clients that either cannot commit to an inpatient program or for those individuals transitioning out of a residential facility back into regular life. Clients engage in consistent therapy without having to take time away from school or work.
Treatment integrates mental health assessments, job skills training, employment assistance, psychoeducation and 12-step. Clients engage in seven 12-step meetings a week as well as topic groups that focus on acceptance and gender challenges. In addition, the facility performs regular and random urine tests as well as AIDS tests.
B. Riley concentrates on relapse prevention techniques and coping skills as well as holistic methods like yoga. Programming also incorporates a sexual curriculum that focuses on sexual compulsions and obsessions, assault and identity issues.
The B. Riley Sober House team is comprised of resident advocates, house managers, case managers and counselors. While the staff does not include a physician or psychiatrist, clients in need of medication management are provided with referrals.
With room for 13 residents, B. Riley Sober House provides an atmosphere that offers both privacy and a strong, tight-knit community of peers. Unlike many sober houses, there is no minimum or maximum stay requirement. The first floor of the house is dedicated to newer residents that require closer supervision. Individuals on the bottom floor stay in bunk beds. The second floor is for clients that have been in the program for awhile, need less monitoring, and sleep on shared bedrooms. Residents that require the least amount of supervision stay on the top floor in private rooms.
The B. Riley Sober House is one of the few facilities in the country to specialize in the LGBTQ+ community. The facility provides safe and stable transitional accommodations as well as a comprehensive and flexible IOP program. In addition to a warm, supportive atmosphere, clients engage in therapy sessions, 12-step groups, life and job skills, topic groups and psychoeducation courses. For clients in the community seeking a sober house, B. Riley is a top notch facility that offers a compassionate team and excellent programming.
