Axis House Review

Axis House is a sober living home for men in the Palms area of Los Angeles, California. Axis House was originally founded by Brad Keith, a former rehab tech. He went on to turn Axis into a substance abuse treatment network with several facilities in southern California. Three Axis residential locations offer detox, inpatient and outpatient services. The sober living program at Axis House follows the principles of 12-step methodology with an emphasis on personal accountability through recovery. The house has high-end amenities and provides a pleasant and structured environment for men who are new in recovery.

Accommodations and Amenities

The Axis House is a pretty 3,000 square foot house with four double-occupancy bedrooms and three baths. No more than eight men live in Axis House at any given time. Residents share common dining, family and living rooms. The home is outfitted with new furnishings, several flat screen TVs with cable and HBO. Other amenities include WiFi and free on-site laundry. The men are responsible for shopping for groceries, cooking for themselves and they share in household chores.

Rules and Regulations

New clients at Axis House must have completed detox prior to admission. This house offers an intensive structure designed to help residents become immersed in the 12 steps and get focused on recovery. Residents are expected to live a 12-step lifestyle, which means attending at least five AA or NA meetings a week, refraining from using drugs and alcohol and submitting to random testing. There is a zero tolerance policy for relapse.

Weekly requirements include finding a sponsor, attending daily 12-step meetings, performing household chores and showing up for two in-house meetings.

Clients are subject to two random drug and alcohol screenings per week. While not required, outpatient treatment is encouraged and many of the guys attend Intensive Outpatient (IOP) at one of the nearby Axis facilities.

Extras

Axis House encourages Big Book study, relapse prevention work and life skills training. The “fun in recovery” component of its program includes sober group outings to baseball games, rock-climbing excursions and beach trips.

In Summary

Axis House gives men of all ages an opportunity to focus on building a solid foundation in recovery based on the 12 steps, but also offers the option for Axis IOP for those who require supplementary outpatient services. For men looking for a structured 12-step style sober living in LA, this is a great place.
