Axis Community Health offers a ten-week Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for substance abuse. Since 1972, Axis Community Health has been serving residents of the San Francisco area’s Tri-Valley community providing low- and no-cost medical and behavioral health services in one of the country’s most affluent areas. The Adult Drug and Alcohol Recovery Program—known as Adult DARP—is offered in ACH’s Livermore, California location while its Teen IOP, is offered in Pleasanton.
Treatment and Staff
The ten-week adult IOP meets three evenings each week. Each evening consists of three hours of addiction education and group therapy. The IOP curriculum is based on the Matrix Model, which utilizes CBT and teaches relapse prevention. Twelve-step meetings are not required or offered by ACH’s IOP, however clients are encouraged to attend them on their own and are directed to fifty AA/NA meetings available each week in the surrounding community.
While ACH’s program doesn’t include individual therapy, group sessions usually have fewer than eight participants, ensuring that all clients receive individual attention. Group sessions are led by addiction counselors including CADCs and those who suffer from co-occurring disorders are given referrals to therapists and psychiatrists at ACH’s Behavioral Health clinic.
ACH’s IOP has a Family Night every five to 10 weeks and makes sure that each client has the opportunity to bring a loved one and/or family member to learn more about addiction and recovery. ACH also provides clients with one year of aftercare—free of charge—consisting of weekly alumni support meetings.
Axis Community Health’s Adult DARP provides an intimate, structured program that uses evidence based treatment and promotes healing through addiction education and improving coping skills. As a member of a five-location community health netowrk that has been in operation for decades, Axis Community Health also provides clients with medical and psychiatric care and referrals to other community agencies to ensure their recovery is as well-supported as possible.
