Located in Agoura Hills, a town situated between the Santa Monica mountains and the city of Thousand Oaks, Awakenings Neurofeedback Clinic provides outpatient therapy at the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) levels for clients struggling with substance use disorders, trauma and chronic pain. It also facilitates dual diagnosis support for individuals with co-occurring disorders. Comprehensive and individualized treatment programs combine several therapeutic modalities including evidence-based practices, holistic approaches, experiential therapy, neurofeedback and 12-step recovery principles. Awakenings is family owned and operated, founded by Dr. Shari Corbitt, a licensed psychologist and addiction specialist, and Peter Corbitt, a certified clinical neurotherapist.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning treatment, clients undergo an assessment to help the staff develop the most effective customized program to meet their needs. The evaluation combines biopsychosocial and neurofeedback elements. IOP and PHP programs are perfect for clients transitioning out of a residential phase that want to continue with therapy, or those that cannot completely step away from their lives to engage in a long-term program. Awakenings provides clients an intensive treatment that includes cutting-edge neurofeedback technology. Clients have the option to live in their own home during treatment and come to the facility for sessions, or reside in one of Awakenings’ sober living facilities. Sessions are usually Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, but Wednesday can be added if desired.
Clients participate in group therapy four times a week. Group sessions often utilize DBT, a method that combines standard CBT with the mindfulness of a meditative practice. In addition, neurofeedback sessions are performed daily.
Holistic methods like yoga, nutrition, mindfulness and music therapy are used as well as equine-assisted therapy for clients working through trauma, stress, and substance use or eating disorders. Awakenings also offers a spiritual component to treatment with an introduction to the 12-step method. Clients complete the first three steps of the program during treatment, giving them a foundation for future support after the transition into regular life.
The Awakenings team is comprised of therapists, counselors, specialty therapists, psychologists and neurofeedback experts. For clients in need of dual diagnosis support, medication management is available.
A key component to the Awakenings treatment is neurofeedback, also known as EEG Biofeedback. The facility offers a unique treatment called Brain Paint, where brain waves are stabilized and lessens the reactive mindset, thereby leading to compliance in treatment, decreased relapse, healing and recovery.
Awakenings Neurofeedback Clinic is a treatment facility that provides outpatient level care for clients struggling substance use disorders, trauma, chronic pain and co-occurring disorders. The IOP and PHP are rooted in a variety of therapies, holistic methods, experiential activities, neurofeedback sessions and 12-step. For clients seeking comprehensive programming that is both well-rounded and utilizes cutting-edge technology, Awakenings is a great option.
