With locations throughout Los Angeles, California, Aviva Family and Children’s Services is a nonprofit behavioral health organization that offers a number of affordable services to children and families struggling with mental health issues and co-occurring disorders. Aviva was founded in 1915 and offers all-encompassing support for a range of issues. In addition to its residential treatment options for young people in Hollywood, it also provides outpatient and flexible wraparound services as well.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning treatment, all clients work with on staff case managers to help determine their needs. While the organization does not provide on-site detox services, those in need can get referrals to nearby facilities. Because Aviva Family and Children’s Services are so individualized, the details of each care plan can vary significantly. In any case, both individual and group therapy are available including evidence-based treatment practices, like CBT and DBT, and trauma-informed care. One major focus is on Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT). Because the organization is in essence a affiliated group of licensed counselors, specific modalities may vary. Though 12-step participation is not always required, it may be encouraged when applicable.
Because Aviva offers help for clients with substance abuse, sexual abuse, domestic violence and more, all programs are relatively customizable. The staff at Aviva Family and Children’s Services consists of LMFTs, CADCs, LCSWs, art therapists, psychologists and additional Master’s-level clinicians.
In addition to clinical therapy, other services include anger management groups, family therapy, life skills groups and financial education.
Programs are also available specifically for children who have been in and out of juvenile hall and the penal system. Foster family and adoption services are also provided when necessary.
Wraparound services are also offered, wherein Aviva’s counselors travel to families to do in-home therapy, parenting classes and skills workshops. This option can also be used as an aftercare plan as well.
In all, Aviva Family and Children’s Services is a wide-ranging organization which provides affordable and often much-needed therapy for struggling families. All treatment plans are highly customizable and include oversight from licensed clinicians and case managers for problems like mental illness, domestic violence, sexual abuse and addiction. Aviva Family and Children’s Services is a strong outpatient resource for lower-income clients in LA.
