Avita Community Partners Review
Avita Community Partners provides mental health and social services for those with developmental disabilities and addictive disorders. Founded by the Georgia State Legislature in 1993, it serves 13 counties in northeast Georgia including the Atlanta metropolitan area. Avita offers Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOPs) in its Hall and Forsyth county locations and aims to help “individuals, families, and communities minimize barriers and achieve their dreams.”
Treatment and Staff
The IOP is 12 weeks of treatment and includes three weekly three-hour sessions of group therapy and psychoeducation classes. Both daytime and evening groups are available and clients can do a combination of both to accommodate their work, life and family schedules. Clients receive individual therapy once a month, more often if needed.
The IOP is based on The Recovery and The Episodes of Treatment Models as well as Hazelden’s Living in Balance Curriculum, which addresses relapse prevention, trauma recovery, the 12-steps, family systems and building self-esteem. Groups are run by addiction counselors including CACs and clients also have access to LCSWs. Dual-diagnosis is supported in group therapy, and there is a dedicated weekly group to explore co-occurring disorders. At present, groups have a staff-to-client ratio of one-to-10.
Extras
Following completion of the IOP, clients can continue to see their counselor one-on-one for aftercare. Avita also has an Employment Services program that works with IOP clients to help secure meaningful work and can also assist with life skills such as budgeting and nutrition planning. An ambulatory detox facility is available in its Hall County location.
