Avenues to Recovery Review
Owned by husband-and-wife team Lucy and David Brown since 2003, Avenues to Recovery is an outpatient treatment facility in Olathe, the fourth-most populous city in Kansas. The Browns have both been working in the field of addiction and recovery for over 20 years and use their professional experience for the well-being of their clients.
Treatment and Staff
Although the treatment program at ATR is outpatient only, their focus on individualized care has inspired many success stories. Treatment starts with an initial assessment to better understand what type of treatment is needed for the individual. Avenues to Recovery provides referral services for those in need of residential treatment.
ATR uses the holistic “Avenues” model of recovery, which “recognizes that we all exist as mind, body, spirit and emotions.” Group therapy is offered during the day, in the evenings and also on weekends in either coed or gender-specific groups. Individual therapy is offered in conjunction with group therapy or on its own. Sessions typically last 50 minutes and focus on helping the client to be engaged and empowered during their recovery.
ATR also includes the family in treatment by treating addiction as a family disease. They offer their family services at their own facility as well as at many other off-site locations.
Both founders of ATR are licensed intervention specialists and LADCs and Lucy Brown is a CADC as well.

ATR’s intervention services are crucial in aiding their clients. Both David and Lucy Brown are intervention specialists who have focused much of their research on how to conduct a successful intervention. Their evidence-based approach to interventions focuses on educating and preparing the family of their client to help change their loved one’s life for the better.
In Summary
The family-operated ATR invests in total family wellness and individualized treatment. Although they are solely outpatient and do not have much in the way of luxury at their facility, their dedicated commitment to each client is what sets them apart.
