Avance, Inc. Review
Since 1998, Avance, Inc. has offered low-cost counseling services in the Lincoln Square neighborhood on the North Side of Chicago. Serving a culturally diverse population, a large percentage claiming “an educational and socio-economic disadvantage,” Avance provides substance abuse treatment services that include basic outpatient and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for adults and adolescents.
Avance treats clients with evidence based methods which include CBT, psychoeducation and individual and group therapy.
Treatment and Staff
After a bio-psycho-social assessment, clients are placed in either the basic outpatient or IOP track. Basic outpatient clients receive 30 hours of treatment which usually consists of group therapy once a week and individual therapy as-needed for approximately nine weeks. IOP clients receive 75 hours of treatment that consists of group therapy and psychoeducation groups three times a week and individual therapy as needed for approximately 12 weeks.
Avance’s counselors are CADCs and use a variety of treatment methods including CBT. Both evening and daytime groups are available and staff-to-client ratio is usually one-to-seven with a maximum of 10 participants. Avance doesn’t host 12-step meetings, but clients are encouraged to attend community meetings on their own.
Avance’s classes and groups address a wide range of issues surrounding mental health and addiction, but clients with co-occurring disorders are referred to a nearby mental health clinic for on-going dual-diagnosis support.
Extras
Avance offers therapy and education classes in Spanish. DUI Services, a 12-week Anger Management program and a 26-week Domestic Violence intervention program that includes curriculum for LGBTQ couples are also available.
