The Basics

With facilities in Gimli and Winnipeg, Canada, Aurora Recovery Centre is a broad behavioral health organization that provides treatment services to clients struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders. The organization opened in 2015 and offers 12-step oriented care with additional medical and counseling support. In addition to its residential treatment options, the organization also provides flexible outpatient-based counseling through Arc Counseling, one of its subsidiaries.

Treatment and Staff

Before beginning treatment, all clients go through an initial intake and assessment to help staff members determine their needs. The facility does offer medical detox services along with Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) services whenever necessary. Once stabilized, clients can attend therapy in varying intensities, typically lasting between 30 and 90 days.  One of the flagship programs is the Comprehensive Addiction Treatment (ACT) program, which is akin to an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). It lasts six weeks and includes three group sessions and one individual session per week. Day, evening and weekend time slots are available.

Regardless of the program specifics, individual and group therapy relies upon best practices modalities including CBT, DBT and EMDR. Additional holistic and alternative services are also employed, including the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) and acupuncture in some cases. Groups cover a wide range of topics including triggers, relapse prevention, coping skills, family issues, dual diagnosis issues, 12-step recovery and psychoeducational groups.

The staff at Aurora Recovery Centre consists of psychologists, LMFTs, LCSWs, doctors, RNs, case managers and additional Master’s-level clinicians.

Extras

Additional programs include three-day and six-week family programs designed to provide support for family members of clients who are in treatment. The three-day option includes 18 hours of educational groups and one follow-up individual session; the six-week plan includes weekly three-hour group therapy and individual counseling as well.

As mentioned, the organization also offers more intensive residential treatment plans whenever necessary. Those who complete a primary care regimen can also attend a continuing care plan or work with staff members to develop other stepped down aftercare options.

In Summary

Aurora Recovery Centre has many different programs available for clients struggling with addiction and related behavioral health issues. Treatment plans are flexible and include evidence-based care practices, holistic approaches, educational groups, 12-step integration and dual diagnosis support. The staff is also diverse and professional, all willing to meet clients wherever they are at in their recovery. Though the cost of each program may vary by program specifics and insurance, Aurora Recovery Centre’s outpatient programs remain a strong resource worth considering for clients in the area.
