Aurora Charter Oak Review
Aurora Charter Oak provides outpatient treatment for adults who are diagnosed with substance abuse issues. As a subsidiary of the Aurora Behavioral Healthcare network (which has comprehensive residential programs for adolescents and adults), Charter Oak is part of an expansive group of hospitals and institutes offering comprehensive treatment in California, Illinois, Nevada, Arizona and Texas. Located in Covina, California on the grounds of Charter Oak Psychiatric Hospital, Aurora Charter Oak has been treating residents of Los Angeles County and the San Gabriel valley since 2000.
Treatment and Staff
Aurora has a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for adults. The PHP meets Monday through Friday from 9 am to 3:30 pm. Treatment includes group therapy, educational sessions and individual therapy utilizing CBT. Therapists utilize CBT and MET. Topics include the physical, psychological and social aspects of addiction, anger management, skill building, relapse prevention, identifying and expressing feelings and stress management. Medication management is available as necessary. Duration of the program is 4-6 weeks, depending on the client. Urinalysis testing is conducted weekly and clients are required to attend four AA/NA meetings per week. In addition, those with co-occurring disorders attend groups dealing with depression and anxiety.
IOP is also 4-6 weeks in duration and clients attend three groups per day three days a week, with an additional hour for individual therapy. Group topics are similar to those in PHP with less frequency. As with PHP, clients are required to attend three AA/NA meetings per week.
The treatment team consists of MFTs, CADCs, treatment technicians, LPNs and psychiatrists. Transportation to and from treatment and meals are both included for IOP and PHP clients.

Charter Oak has a well-trained and experience treatment team and provides an intensive level of outpatient. The PHP may be a good choice for individuals unable to commit to residential treatment, but who need strict recovery support on their way to sobriety.
