Glendale ArizonaAurora Behavioral Health Arizona Review

Based in Corona, California, Signature Healthcare Services is one of the largest networks of private psychiatric hospitals in the country. It delivers mental health and substance abuse treatment services for children, adolescents and adults in ten hospitals. There are facilities in California, Arizona, Nevada, Illinois and in multiple locations throughout Texas. Each hospital delivers a continuum of care, accepting clients on a voluntary basis.

Aurora Behavioral Health Systems Arizona provides inpatient and outpatient treatment in two locations: Glendale and Tempe, Arizona. Both offer programs for the treatment of substance abuse issues and co-occurring disorders in adolescents, adults and seniors.

Accommodations and Food

Clients are paired in gender-specific hospital-style rooms in both facilities. The Tempe location provides treatment for 75 clients, while the Glendale location has room for 100. Both provide meals in a cafeteria and food is basic but nutritious. Dietary requirements as well as preferences can be accommodated. No outside food or drink is permitted on the grounds.

Treatment and Staff

The medical detox facility treats clients that are at risk for side effects from withdrawal for alcohol and benzodiazepines. During the intake assessment, a psychiatrist and case manager will determine an individualized course of treatment. During detox, clients are closely monitored by licensed nursing staff and are evaluated daily by a doctor. Medication management is provided, as is dual diagnosis support if necessary. Detox usually lasts for three to five days, after which clients can transfer to the inpatient or one of the outpatient programs.

Inpatient clients attend daily individual therapy and group sessions, which are facilitated by psychiatrists, licensed therapists and clinicians. Groups focus on stress management, coping skills, anger management, life skills, psychoeducation and relapse prevention. Attendance at 12-step meetings is required.

The inpatient adolescent program for young people 13 to 17 and the decades older program for adults over 60 treat clients using the same modalities, but also introduce groups tailored specifically for the needs of younger and older clients. Treatment is highly structured and individualized, assisting clients with co-occurring disorders as well as issues related to chemical dependency.

Clients move from inpatient to either the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) or Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), as recommended by their case manager. The Partial Hospitalization Program is available for all age groups and consists of sessions five days a week for six hours a day. Transportation to and from the facility is provided, and clients have meal breaks with some food provided. The main components of this level of treatment are individual and group therapy, however all modalities are available.

The IOP lasts for eight weeks, and consists of three to five hour sessions, three to five times a week. These programs are designed to prevent hospitalization for clients, or further treat those that have completed it. Attendance in 12-step groups is required.

Extras

Additional therapies, such as art therapy, music therapy and recreational therapies are available. Movement therapies such as yoga, Tai Chi and meditation are often part of treatment plans. Clients also benefit from meeting with dieticians and spiritual advisers as part of the holistic treatment.

The aftercare program is available for all clients that complete one of the programs. It meets for one hour twice a week and covers emotion management, relapse prevention and peer support.

In Summary

Aurora Behavioral Health Systems provides a wide variety of care for adolescents, adults and seniors. The continuum of treatment offered along with the holistic approach, make this a great choice for those looking for long term treatment, as well as clients seeking detox or specialized dual-diagnosis support in a hospital setting. All of that, plus the inclusion of the 12-steps, gives clients the very best start in recovery.
