Situated in the affluent neighborhood of Parnell in the city of Auckland, New Zealand, Augustus Clinic assists men and and women struggling with alcohol and substance use disorders. Founded in 2008 by clinic director Grant Foster, the facility provides private, individualized outpatient services tailored to the individual client’s needs and schedule. Previously with the National Addiction Centre’s “Treatment Evaluation of Alcohol and Mood” study, Foster has a great understanding of addiction through many years of professional experience as well as his personal struggle and subsequent recovery.
Treatment and Staff
Incoming clients undergo a comprehensive assessment before beginning treatment. This helps the team develop the best possible individualized plan based on the person’s needs, goals and schedule. The services are completely flexible and tailored around the client’s conflicts, be work, school or otherwise. Foster places a premium on privacy and discretion. These are integral components to the success of therapy and a sustainable long-term recovery. As such, the Augustus Clinic’s address is undisclosed and clients never engage in group therapy. All programming is designed for the person and facilitated in a one-on-one setting.
Augustus offers a multi-faceted approach to care that integrates an array of therapeutic methods including 12-step, evidence-based practices and holistic measures. Depending on their circumstances, clients engage in therapy that’s rooted in CBT, mindfulness, stress and anger management, goal setting and/or relapse prevention.
The Augustus Clinic is the private practice of Grant Foster. While he is not a psychiatrist, Foster can make referrals for clients in need of medication management. When necessary, Foster also can arrange for a medically supervised detox.
Augustus’ specialty services extend beyond therapy. For clients living outside of Auckland, the facility can arrange accommodation for the duration of treatment.
Augustus sees the major role that marital and familial support play in recovery. As such, Foster offers one-one-one counseling for the family and significant others of clients to help them understand addiction and how best they can help.
