Atlanta Family Counseling

Atlanta Family Counseling is a private outpatient facility with two locations in the suburbs of Atlanta, one in Duluth and the other in Lawrenceville. AFC offers an extensive array of counseling options for those seeking treatment for addiction. The small staff and personalized attention to detail provides clients with a supportive treatment environment.

Treatment and Staff

AFC offers treatment for individuals in either an outpatient or Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). An initial assessment performed by the clinic’s director determines which path is best for a client to take. Though AFC is not a 12-step based program, they do recommend local AA or NA meetings to clients who are interested in pursuing that option. There is a consistent schedule of group and individual sessions at both of the facilities.

IOP treatment generally consists of three group sessions per week and one individual therapy session—a total of seven hours. The outpatient program includes four hours of group and individual therapy only upon request, for an additional fee. Programs are designed to last anywhere from six to 24 weeks. AFC uses therapy methods that include CBT and DBT. Depending on the counselor, other methods including play therapy, experiential therapy, Motivational Interviewing (MI) or solution-based therapy may be integrated into group or individual sessions.

Group sessions take place Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings. AFC insists on maintaining a consistent schedule, so at the first assessment clients are expected to choose a set schedule and maintain it each week. Groups are small—no more than 10 people at a time, with one counselor per group.

In addition to the director, Jennifer Hope, who is a licensed professional counselor and hypnotherapist, the staff consists of eight other licensed professional counselors and one Master’s-level social worker.

Extras

A family therapy program is an option for those who want to involve their loved ones in the process of recovery. Regular drug screening is also available for clients in treatment.

The facility’s director offers hypnotherapy to clients as another treatment option. The team at AFC believes hypnosis is a very effective therapy for the cravings associated with addiction as well as weight control, smoking cessation, stress relief, depression and anxiety.

In Summary

AFC offers truly individualized care from supportive counselors for those seeking treatment. Understanding the needs of each client is what sets this facility apart and, with staff that specializes in many different methods of therapy, it is able to serve whatever needs a client has.
