Atlanta Center for Eating Disorders Review

Located in Atlanta, Georgia, Atlanta Center for Eating Disorders is a broad behavioral health organization that provides flexible care to clients struggling with eating disorders and related issues. The facility was founded in 1993, is Joint Commission-accredited and offers a multifaceted approach to care. The Atlanta Center for Eating Disorders facilitates outpatient, Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP), but also offers a more intensive residential treatment option for men and women.

Accommodations and Food

The residential program is intimate with only five beds available for clients in private rooms. The home is decorated like a comfortable bed and breakfast and each room comes with a queen-sized bed, a dresser, closet space and basic decor. The facility also comes with all the standard amenities of a normal home including a living room, a fully-equipped kitchen, dining room areas, a game room, a library and on-site laundry. The house also comes with nearby parking and public transportation. Throughout their stay, clients are served three healthy meals a day.

Treatment and Staff

Before beginning a program, all clients go through an initial intake and assessment process to help staff members determine their needs. As a non-medical program, those seeking detox and stabilization services may need to seek additional services elsewhere. Once stabilized, clients can begin their treatment.

Throughout the program, all residents attend individual, group and family therapy with evidence-based treatment practices including CBT and DBT. Because many of the programs are eating disorder-oriented, nutritional counseling is also a major part of treatment and includes sessions with dietitians and coaches to develop healthy eating plans and work on body image. Dual diagnosis support and medication management services are also available, as are case management and psychiatric services. Groups cover many different topics including mindfulness, cooking skills and trauma processing. Although 12-step recovery isn’t always required, referrals to nearby meetings are available upon request.

The staff at the Atlanta Center for Eating Disorders consists of psychologists, psychiatrists, LCSWs, LPCs, RDNs, LMFTs, dietitians, case managers and additional Master’s-level counselors.

Extras

Additional amenities include a host of holistic services including meditation, yoga and mindfulness training. As previously mentioned, flexible outpatient, IOP and PHP are also available. Intensive family therapy weekends and aftercare planning can also be integrated into treatment.

In Summary

Overall, the Atlanta Center for Eating Disorders offers a flexible and well-rounded approach to clients looking for help with eating disorders and related issues. All care plans are flexible and individualized with psychiatric oversight, meal planning, evidence-based care and holistic treatment as well. While the cost of treatment plans may vary depending on insurance and care specifics, the Atlanta Center for Eating Disorders’ residential program is an option worth considering for those in the area.
