Atlanta Center for Eating Disorders Outpatient Review
Based out of Atlanta, Georgia, Atlanta Center for Eating Disorders is a multi-faceted behavioral health organization that provides flexible care for men and women struggling with eating disorders and related issues. Founded in 1993, the facility is Joint Commission-accredited and provides multifaceted approaches to treatment. In addition to residential treatment, the organization also has outpatient, Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP).
Treatment and Staff
Before treatment begins, all participants go through an initial screening and assessment to help staff members determine their needs. Although medical detox and stabilization services are not available, those in need can get referrals to nearby programs as necessary. Once accepted, clients in PHP attend treatment two to six days a week for six to eight hours whereas IOP meets for one to five days a week for several hours per session.
Participants can expect to attend individual, group and family therapy rooted in evidence-based treatment practices including CBT and DBT. Nutritional counseling is a major part of each care plan as well, wherein clients work with dietitians and coaches to develop healthy eating plans and work on body image issues. Dual diagnosis support and medication management are also available, along with case management and psychiatric oversight. Groups cover many topics including recovery skills, mindfulness, cooking skills, body image and trauma processing. Although 12-step recovery is not strictly required, clients can get referrals to nearby meetings as necessary.
The staff at Atlanta Center for Eating Disorders consists of psychiatrists, psychologists, LPCs, LCSWs, case managers, RDNs, LMFTs, dietitians and additional Master’s- and PhD-level clinicians.
Extras
Other holistic services are also worked into the program including yoga, meditation and mindfulness training. In addition to the more structured plans mentioned above, clients can also do more flexible outpatient plans as well as aftercare services. The organization provides an intensive family therapy weekend program as well.
In Summary
Overall, the Atlanta Center for Eating Disorders provides a well-rounded treatment program for clients seeking help for eating disorders and related behavioral health issues. Treatment plans are highly flexible and include psychiatric oversight, meal planning, evidence-based treatment practices and some holistic methods as well. While the cost of treatment is likely to vary by program specifics and length of stay, Atlanta Center for Eating Disorders’ outpatient programs remain a strong option for those in the area.
