Atlanta Addiction Recovery Center Review
Based in the suburb of Marietta, Georgia, Atlanta Addiction Recovery Center (AARC) is a faith-based, 12-step driven treatment program that provides a number of services for individuals struggling with chemical dependency, substance abuse and/or co-occurring disorders. Offerings include ambulatory detox, a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and standard OP. Every stage of treatment at AARC involves individualized, evidence-based approaches and involvement in a community built around a strong Christian fellowship.
Treatment and Staff
Clients who are in need of the initial step of ambulatory detox are assessed by a medical team for any co-occurring conditions and a history of medications. During this process the clients receive the proper medical care to detox prior to beginning their regular outpatient program. Once they are stabilized, they can begin participating in treatment.
The PHP is the most intensive level of care that runs five days a week, for up to six hours a day. A typical week includes meditation and worship, medication management, nutritional counseling, daily group therapy, recreation and exercise. The IOP is a step-down from the PHP, and at first entails four or five day a week of treatment for about three hours for a month. After that, clients attend their program three days a week for three hours.
Once both of these phases of treatment are completed clients can begin to attend individual therapy once a week or so, along with a few group sessions per month. Throughout this process, clients learn about relapse prevention and improving communication and relationships. They also work on anger management and attend regular Bible study.
Treatment protocols are evidence-based and include CBT, EMDR and programming that targets PTSD or dual diagnosis symptoms.
The staff of AARC is made up of a multidisciplinary team of clinicians and medical professionals. Accreditations include LMFT, LPC, registered nurses and recovery counselors.
Extras
There is an aftercare program and family program introduced during the last steps of outpatient care. The family program includes family counseling, education and support groups. Family members are introduced to Al-Anon too.
In addition, AARC offers a weekly three-hour worship meeting that combines 12-step principles with Bible teachings.
