Athens Addiction Recovery Center Review
Athens Addiction Recovery Center (AARC) is a CARF-accredited outpatient treatment facility for substance abuse in the Athens, Georgia area. AARC offers an ambulatory detox program, an Intensive Outpatient Day Program (IOP), evening outpatient and aftercare services. Treatment utilizes evidence-based modalities along with holistic therapies. For those who require a more structured program, AARC offers referrals to residential treatment at affiliated facility Serenity Grove, located in the Lake Oconee area of central Georgia.
Treatment and Staff
New clients at AARC undergo lengthy assessments with an intake counselor so that an individualized treatment plan can be developed. Ambulatory detox is available for clients suffering from opioid withdrawal. This includes Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) with buprenorphine, as well as medical check-ups and daily counseling sessions. The day IOP meets 12 hours a week, Monday through Saturday, and typically runs about 30 days, although the length of treatment can vary. The evening outpatient program is designed for clients with daytime obligations and includes approximately nine hours a week of treatment on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings. All programs include case management, group and individual therapy.
At AARC, evidence-based modalities, such as CBT and DBT, are used in conjunction with psychoeducational sessions. Groups range in size, between ten and 15 clients, and address the 12 steps, relapse prevention, coping skills and stress reduction approaches. Dual diagnosis support is available if necessary and a psychiatrist sees clients who require medication management for co-occurring disorders.
AARC was co-founded by Karen Skinner who is a CADC with more than two decades of experience in the field of substance abuse recovery. The staff also includes a MD who serves as Medical Director, an RN, CADCs, LCSWs and a certified Recovery Coach.
Extras
Holistic treatments include yoga, experiential therapy, music therapy, massage and meditation. Family involvement is encouraged, and a family program is offered. AARC also works with human resources departments to provide employee assistance programs for those facing trouble at work because of addiction issues.
Aftercare includes individual and group therapy, per client’s needs. Referrals to sober livings and recovery support groups, including 12-step meetings, are provided.
