Sunspire Health: Astoria Pointe Review
Set in the picturesque coastal town of Astoria, Oregon, Sunspire Health’s Astoria Pointe‘s residential treatment facility creates a healing environment for those seeking recovery from addiction. The residential treatment offers a wide variety of services for men and women suffering from varying degrees of substance use disorder, as well as offering medical detox on-site and an outpatient program. Its hands-on approach to treatment allows residents to get individualized care that helps to ensure long-term sobriety.
Accommodations and Food
Surrounded by lush forests and several rivers, clients of Astoria Pointe have the benefit of calming, coastal living. The facility has been remodeled to accommodate 40 patients. The bedrooms here are shared, gender-separate quarters with two queen-sized beds, a private bathroom and adequate space. Private rooms are not available. To reduce distractions, there are no TVs in the facility. Private cell phones and laptops are prohibited.
A full kitchen and dining room is just a few doors down from the dorm area. Here, the staff prepares three full meals per day for clients, served buffet style. While the menu is not exactly gourmet, the food is certainly hearty and wholesome.
Treatment and Staff
Astoria Pointe’s clients receive medical detox onsite when necessary, followed by a mix of individual therapy, family therapy, CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI), trauma process groups, spiritual support, and anger management. Additionally, alternative therapies such as yoga, meditation, adventure therapy and hiking are also offered.
While dual diagnosis is supported at Astoria Pointe, the main focus is substance use disorder. The team is made up of nurses who are on duty around the clock, a medical doctor, and a group of highly trained therapists.
Extras
Clients can get a breath of fresh air when the weekend hits. Saturday afternoons are typically reserved for hiking along the beautiful beach nearby. Clients are also able to keep fit through daily trips to the local gym. Exercise is seen as a way to improve mood, reduce anxiety, strengthen self-esteem and boost energy. The gym membership is included in the monthly cost.
With an outpatient clinic located a short distance from the residential facility, Astoria Pointe offers patients the option to step down from the residential program and continue to receive care at the partial hospitalization and outpatient level with community housing. The outpatient program is designed to provide ongoing support and treatment for patients as they transition to life after residential treatment.
