Associates for Life Enhancement Inc. Review
With over 30 years of experience, New Jersey’s Associates for Life Enhancement Inc. offers a host of recovery services including outpatient addiction treatment, anger management classes, couples counseling and services tailored specifically toward coping with depression and anxiety. The organization has two facilities located in the towns of Northfield and Mt. Laurel.
Treatment and Staff
The Associates for Life Enhancement substance abuse program is simple, offering group and individual therapy sessions once a week, typically for 16 weeks. Because of this scheduling, Associates for Life is a Level I outpatient facility— Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are not offered. Sessions are led by LADCs and include a diverse array of treatment methods. While CBT and 12-step philosophies are offered, Associates for Life Enhancement also utilizies Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT), a form of CBT that can serve as an alternative to 12-step. There is a heavy focus on Motivational Interviewing (MI) and relapse prevention as well. Clients also have access to an aftercare program, the duration of which is determined on an individual basis.
Worth noting is that there are no substance abuse group sessions held at the Mt. Laurel location. Instead, clients there have access to individual counseling sessions with a licensed counselor.
There is a dual diagnosis component to treatment at Associates for Life as well. Clients can address mental health issues such as depression and anxiety in special group and individual sessions. However, there is no medical doctor, psychiatrist or nursing team on staff, and medication management is not offered. For those in need of psychiatrist visit, they can be referred to a local practitioner. Clients in need of medical detox can be referred to a nearby facility during their intake assessment.
Aside from treatment for substance abuse, Associates for Life also has broader counseling services to address ADHD, Alzheimer’s, anger management, bipolar disorder, career counseling, domestic abuse, eating disorders, gambling, family conflict, sexual addiction and parenting issues. Those using Associates for Life’s services can create a program that meets their specific needs, although these services are separate from the group and individual substance abuse therapies.
Extras
Associates for Life Enhancement also offers an Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Incorporated into their services in 1987, it’s a work site based program that offers preventative assistance to clients who work for large employers and municipalities, and their families. These services include manager consultations, threat assessments, mediation and disability management. Furthermore, there are specific programs catering to those in the Department of Transportation (DOT) who must meet certain requirements for full reinstatement at their positions.
In Summary
The outpatient services offered at Associates for Life Enhancement Inc. are relatively simple in nature, comprised of just one group and one individual session a week for 16 weeks. Still, the overall breadth of the facility’s counseling options and methods, including REBT and an introduction to 12-step concepts, makes it a potentially valuable resource for residents of southern New Jersey.
