Associates at Hope Harbor Review
With four locations across the state of Kansas, Associates at Hope Harbor provides outpatient substance abuse services as well as mental health counseling, court-ordered evaluations, domestic violence classes, family counseling and a variety of other specialized individual counseling programs.
Three of the four facilities have substance abuse treatment programs—Olathe, Prescott and Kansas City, the fourth in Paola is limited to general mental health. While treatment is limited to basic outpatient services, all locations utilize evidence based methods of treatment.
Treatment and Staff
AHH’s primary facility for substance abuse services is located in Olathe. Treatment programs consist of group therapy once a week for an hour-long session, typically lasting for 15 weeks. These sessions are held on Tuesday evenings at 5, 6 and 7 pm, on Thursdays at 5 pm and on Saturday mornings at 9, 10 and 11 am.
Treatment at AHH consists primarily of CBT and while individual therapy sessions are available, they are not a staple of the program. AHH does not stress a 12-step foundation of recovery, though certain components of its treatment program do reflect AA philosophy. There is also an advanced program which consists of at least five hours of group and individual sessions a week for a total of ten weeks. AHH does not currently offer an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). Those who complete their initial phase of treatment can participate in a continuing care program.
The staff at AHH are primarily LADCs and while there are staff members certified to offer dual diagnosis support, the facility does not offer medication management as there is no medical team on staff. Similarly, those in need of a medical detox must enroll in an appropriate program before enrolling at AHH. When necessary, clients are referred to an outside facility.
Extras
AHH provides monitoring services for court-ordered clients as necessary. Those enrolled meet their appointed monitors once a month and complete random drug tests throughout the course of the program.
In addition to its outpatient program, AHH also offers a variety of counseling services and courses that can be elected as stand-alone programs or to complement weekly substance abuse sessions. These courses include an anger management class, a batterer’s intervention class and a sex offender program.
AHH also offers continuing care—a comprehensive 10 week aftercare program which includes a continuation of group sessions which focus on relapse prevention and developing and maintaining ongoing recovery plans.
In Summary
With a variety of locations throughout Kansas, Associates at Hope Harbor provides a range of treatment options for those struggling with drug and alcohol addiction. As AHH offers fairly basic substance abuse care with both group and individual treatment options available, those in need of an IOP or a more structured program may need to look elsewhere. However, AHH remains a flexible and frugal choice with a statewide network of accessible treatment.
