The Basics
Assessment Services was founded in 1995 by Director Barry Reed, who aimed to provide a safe space where first-time DUI or Possession offenders could get assessments, education and treatment services. Located in Olathe, Kansas, AS provides services to various courts and districts throughout the state of Kansas as well as outpatient substance abuse treatment for clients in a non-judgmental setting using evidence-based treatment methods including CBT in groups and one-on-one sessions.
Treatment and Staff
If needed, AS offers early intervention services for families who need professional assistance in getting their loved one to commit to a treatment program. The substance abuse program at AS is basic outpatient treatment and is offered solely in the evenings to avoid interference with a client’s work or school obligations. AS prides itself on using CBT which is implemented during both individual and group therapy. Two-hour group sessions are held nightly Monday through Friday. The counselor schedules individual sessions depending on the needs of each individual client, but typically one session is scheduled per week.
The staff at AS consists of LCSWs and LCDCs.
Extras
Besides the outpatient substance abuse treatment program, AS offers a variety of other services. As clients are usually first time offenders, DUI and drug assessments are available as well as two levels of alcohol and drug educational classes for those required by court to attend. AS also provides diversion and probation monitoring and educational courses.

AS is a basic outpatient program uniquely designed for court-ordered individuals or first time DUI offenders. The evidence based counseling and individualized treatment plans are conducted by licensed professionals who assist clients in developing a strong foundation for long-term sobriety while specifically meeting court requirements.
