Aspire Youth & Family Inc Review

For 14 years, Aspire Youth & Family Inc has been providing behavioral, emotional and substance abuse services to young people across Buncombe, Henderson, Haywood, McDowell, Jackson and Polk counties in North Carolina. Its in-home and facility-based treatment programs provide adolescents and young adults with services similar to those offered at adult outpatient facilities, and aim to foster an individual-focused, supportive environment to help them recover.

Treatment and Staff

Aspire offers a variety of substance abuse treatment options based on the needs of their young clients. While it does not offer a detox program, the facility does keep a qualified psychiatrist on staff, and provides the option for additional psychiatric referrals, supporting the facility’s focus on dual diagnosis support for young adults suffering from co-occurring disorders.

Aspire offers after-school substance abuse services on Tuesday nights, designed to help young adults aged 12 to 18 both stay in school and work through their substance abuse issues. For those older clients aged 16 to 24 who do not attend school, a morning session is also available. Both of these group sessions are led by licensed clinical addiction specialists and, rather than a 12-step program, use the seven challenges model, an evidence-based treatment model tailored specifically to youth.

The facility’s day treatment program offers a mixture of group therapy and individual therapy, all against the backdrop of Aspire’s fully-accredited private school that offers both math and English programs. With up to three academic periods between 8 am and 2 pm, Mondays through Fridays, it means students do not have to lose school credits when trying to find their path to recovery. Students must have existing academic trouble in order to be eligible.

An intensive in-home program is also available and provides families with a support service that comes directly to them. Sessions can be held at home, in school or in a community setting. During these sessions, a licensed therapist along with two specialized mental health and substance abuse professionals work directly with families to help deal with their challenges. The program helps to resolve conflict in the home, and can yield behavior plans and an outline of the steps needed for parents to implement them.

Extras

Parents and family members might be reassured that Aspire is a CARF-accredited facility. And in addition to its day, in-home and after-school treatment programs, Aspire also offers medication management, physiological testing and even a culinary arts program led by a therapist and chef. This hands-on experience provides an arena in which students aged 12 to 17 can learn to cook and apply academic ideas, as well as learn how healthy eating and communication factor into overall well-being.

In Summary

For both young adults and their families, Aspire offers flexible substance abuse support that can meet individual needs. More than an outpatient facility, Aspire brings their expertise to where families need it most. Efforts to involve young clients with hands-on activities, as well as therapy, give a depth to its service that has been benefiting lives for over a decade.
