Asian American Recovery Services Outpatient Review
Founded in 1985, Asian American Recovery Services is a multi-faceted, community-oriented program owned and operated by HealthRIGHT 360. Based out of the Bay Area—San Francisco, San Mateo and Santa Clara County, California—its facilities provide outpatient treatment for addiction and co-occurring disorders with a special focus on Asian, Pacific Islander and other ethnically diverse communities. Its programs for adults, adolescents and families work with referrals from government agencies and community organizations as well self-referred clients.
Treatment and Staff
After an initial intake appointment, clients work with staff members to develop individualized treatment plans that consists of individual and group therapy. Therapists use a range of evidence-based practices, including CBT and Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET), as well as psychoeducation. The program also employs recovery philosophies such as Seeking Safety, Seven Challenges and 12-step. Holistic practices, like yoga, acupuncture and mindfulness training are also offered. Treatment is available to clients of all ages and both age and gender-specific groups are provided for those who are more comfortable sharing personal issues among peers.
The staff of Asian American Recovery Services includes a number of Master’s-level clinicians including LCSWs, LPCs, CADCs and psychologists.
Extras
After completing a primary care program, clients can continue on to aftercare and relapse prevention groups in the form of stepped down outpatient treatment and continued case management.
Additional services include CalWORKs and community outreach programs to screen for addiction, mental illness and HIV/AIDS, with referrals available other treatment programs as necessary—like a 26-bed residential treatment program for clients in need of more supervised care. School-based mental health services and pro-social activities groups for teens, as well as support for juvenile justice clients—like those with gang-related traumas—is available in the form of education and social support.
