Asheville Recovery Center Review
North Carolina’s Asheville Recovery Center is an addiction and dual diagnosis treatment facility that provides residential programming along with a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for adult men and women. Inpatient care offers upscale and comfortable accommodations in the mountains. Treatment is based in the 12-step philosophy combined with holistic approaches. Clients can expect a real world experience through individualized and supportive care.
Accommodations and Food
Clients reside in a 16 unit, 32 bed former hunting lodge that was recently renovated. The spacious, apartment style accommodations are, for the most part, double occupancy, but there are private rooms available for an extra fee. Units include a kitchen, TVs, granite countertops and new appliances. There are also laundry facilities for the clients’ convenience, and a porch that provides picturesque mountain views in each of the units.
Common areas on campus include a community room with ping pong table and several other games, that doubles as an alumni meeting space once a week. There is also a bonfire pit and garden. The bonfire is used for clients to get together and bond while making s’mores during their weekly gratitude meetings.
Residents go on weekly shopping excursions where they can pick up their own food, which they prepare for themselves. As life skills is a focus in Asheville Recovery Center’s programming, having clients make their own food is an important element to that.
Treatment and Staff
Individuals have a medical and psychological assessment as soon as they arrive at the facility, and are thoroughly monitored throughout their stay, which is typically between 30 and 45 days. The treatment team puts together an individualized plan that promotes accountability, motivation and support.
After the initial assessment some clients may be in need of detox, which is not offered on site, but the staff is able to make referrals to a well known facility until they are stable and able to return to the residential program. Treatment is highly structured with daily group sessions, primary groups and individual therapy. There is a trauma resolution track, coping skills, relapse prevention, CBT and regular AA meetings. Individual sessions offer rapid resolution therapy to address stress, PTSD, any unresolved trauma, depression and anxiety and chronic pain. Programming incorporates evidence-based models with hands on guidance and spiritual support.
The founders of Asheville Recovery Center and staff all come from recovery backgrounds themselves, and are able to provide that extra element of support and knowledge. Staff is comprised of Master’s-level clinicians who have extensive experience working in the field of recovery. There is a high staff-to-client ratio, which allows for a great deal of one on one focus.
Extras
There are aftercare services, including the step-down outpatient tracks, along with sober living options and family therapy.
Clients have ample opportunities to exercise by attending a gym regularly and participating in group fitness activities. Holistic treatment includes yoga, Qigong, Tai Chi and nature therapy.
