Ashburn Clinic Outpatient Review

Founded in 1882, Ashburn Clinic offers residential, Intensive Outpatient (IOP) and standard outpatient treatment services for clients struggling with alcohol and substance use disorders, eating disorders and an array of mental health conditions including trauma, depression and anxiety. While the residential and IOP include group therapy, psychoeducation and nutrition components, outpatient care primarily focuses on psychiatric assessments and services. Individuals in IOP engage in therapy at the residential grounds, whereas outpatient clients can also be seen at two clinic locations. One is situated 200 kilometers south of Dundin in Invercargill, and another 220 kilometers northwest in the small town of Cromwell.

Treatment and Staff

Ashburn Clinic is devoted to the treatment of individuals struggling with a range of disorders including alcohol and substance use, eating disorders and co-occurring mental conditions like OCD and anxiety. The facility understands that long-term treatment and supervision are integral aspects to the success of a sustainable recovery. As such, many clients transfer into the IOP on a step-down basis from the 10 week residential program. These individuals engage in the same comprehensive care programming as residents, and are also required to undergo a comprehensive assessment before beginning therapy. IOP clients participate in therapy Monday through Friday and are responsible for providing their own transportation. In addition to medication management, Ashburn provides an integrative approach to care at Dunedin that includes an array of methods including psychoeducation, individual and group therapy, large group therapy, community meetings, nutrition therapy. Clients also participate in experiential therapy, recreation and holistic methods like art and music therapy. Once the IOP is complete, many clients transition into standard outpatient. Primary outpatient care includes psychiatric assessments, consultations and medication management.

Ashburn Clinic employs a diverse team made up of therapists, psychiatrists, general practitioners, occupational therapists, nurses, mental health counselors and addiction specialists. As the facility employs a number of psychiatrists, the treatment of clients with mental illnesses is a specialty. The team provides medication management as well as assessment.

Extras

Most clients entering straight into outpatient care need a referral from a physician.

Accommodations are available for IOP clients coming from out of town.
