Ascension Recovery Services Review

Ascension Recovery Services is a treatment program development agency that also operates their own intervention service. The interventions are led by a seasoned professional and chosen from a team of experienced interventionists, most of whom are sober themselves. In addition to intervention services, Ascension provides referrals and resources to mental health and addiction treatment facilities, sober monitoring, and 12-step programming and sponsorship.

Background

Ascension was founded by CEO Douglas M. Leech, who has a background in finance. Leech created  West Virginia Sober Living, a not for profit company that operates sober living homes and provides reintegration services and peer recovery coaching.

Approach

Ascension has a 10-step intervention plan that is implemented the moment clients call their facility. Once contact is made my family members, Ascension assembles a team to conduct the intervention. There are in-home or phone interviews conducted by the interventionists, and a plan of action is discussed.

The interventionist researches treatment facilities located near clients and family members as well as facilities outside the community that can offer the right treatment plan to accommodate their specific needs. Next, the family and interventionist discuss the logistics of how the client will be transported and what the next steps will be.

Before the actual day of the intervention the family meets and rehearses what they are going to say and do. Each family and client is different, so the interventionists at Ascension offer different approaches for each family. A common approach used during interventions is The Johnson Method.

The staff is comprised of a combination of people with business backgrounds and mental health professionals. There are several accreditations associated with Ascension, including LCSW, LPC, AADC, and recovery coaches. Additionally, most staff members from management on down, are in recovery themselves.

Post Intervention and Summary

Regardless of whether or not the client agrees to treatment, Ascension considers each intervention a success for family members who learn to establish boundaries for themselves and their loved one.

After the intervention, staff offers education about the signs of addiction as well as additional guidance in the form of referrals to therapists, treatment facilities, and groups like Al-Anon.

Ascension doesn’t just work to help the client, but also to address the family’s needs and desires during a difficult time. Clients receive support and aftercare, and are able to reach out to the treatment team for guidance for a long time after the intervention is completed.
