Ascension Counseling Center Review
Roughly 20 miles outside of Baton Rouge, with branches in both Gonzales and Donaldsonville in the state of Louisiana, the Ascension Counseling Center provides mental health and substance abuse counseling for Parish residents. All services are outpatient with both a standard outpatient track and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and are reserved for Ascension Parish residents and their family members.
Treatment and Staff
All clients must make an appointment for a comprehensive evaluation with an intake counselor. The screening determines the level of care needed and also identifies any co-occurring disorders that may be contributing to their chemical dependency. Depending on the outcome of the evaluation, the client is either enrolled in the standard outpatient track or the IOP. Each treatment program varies in duration and provides tools and therapeutic activities to assist in the development of healthy coping skills.
The IOP track lasts for six-weeks in length and is attended three days out of the week for three hours each day. Clients attend group therapy each day and attend an individual session once per week. Some groups focus on psycho-education while others emphasize relapse prevention techniques and behavior modification. Clients work with clients to change their attitudes, behaviors and perspectives to shift towards a lifestyle of recovery. Clients are encouraged to attend 12-step meetings to supplement their treatment program.
The standard outpatient program is a 16-week track that requires weekly group attendance and individual therapy once per month. Clients are encouraged to attend 12-step meetings to support their recovery since they are only at the facility once per week. If clients do not wish to attend AA/NA meetings, they can choose Celebrate Recovery or SMART Recovery groups.
Qualified staff members lead all therapeutic activities and work with clients to support their recovery process. Staff credentials include Psychiatrists, Nurses, Master’s-level counselors, LPCs and CSACs. Staff provide referrals for other resources including detox services, medication management and housing.
Extras
In addition to substance abuse support, ACC offers smoking cessation treatment. Continued care treatment is also available for clients who have completed their outpatient program. Attending monthly or bi-monthly groups that focus on relapse prevention are included in the continuing care options. Family therapy may also be available at the consent of the client and recommendation of the therapist.

Ascension Counseling Center provides clients with outpatient care for substance abuse and mental health. Clients may also receive smoking cessation treatment and referrals to other services that do not fall under the ACC scope of treatment. Professional staff provide guidance for clients so they may lay the foundation for lasting recovery.
