Arrowhead Behavioral Health Review
Arrowhead Behavioral Health is a psychiatric hospital that has been providing mental health and substance abuse treatment to the Toledo suburb of Maumee, Ohio for over 25 years. Offering inpatient and outpatient services that specialize in detoxification, rehabilitation and psychiatric care, as well as dual diagnosis support for those with co-occurring disorders, the Arrowhead facility provides comprehensive assistance for clients 18 years or older.
Accommodations and Food
The 48-bed inpatient facility offers its clients a shared room with one other resident. Each has a comfortable twin bed, shelves for personal items, clothing storage space and access to a shared bathroom. Rooms are maintained daily by housekeeping staff, and each client has access to the facility’s gym, recreational therapy area and cafeteria.
Arrowhead’s culinary staff prepares breakfast, lunch and dinner each day, with a choice of healthy menu items as well as flexibility for dietary constraints and allergies. Snacks and drinks are also provided, though to maintain a clean environment, these snacks are not permitted in sessions.
Treatment and Staff
Following intake, each client meets with a psychiatrist within 24 hours of admission. They then receive an individualized treatment plan based on their requirements. There is no set length of stay in any of Arrowhead’s programs, however inpatient treatment typically ranges from one week to one month, with a rigorous schedule of up to seven hours of therapy each day.
Arrowhead’s residential detox options include an alcohol abuse program that offers clients a psychiatrist, 24-hour nursing care, case management, individual therapy, group therapy and aftercare planning. The facility also offers an impaired professionals program, which provides clients with confidential support in a comfortable, culturally sensitive residential setting, as well as the possibility of regaining licensure upon completion. Arrowhead also provides a Suboxone detox program for those who are recovering from opioid addiction and require medication-assisted treatment. This program follows a three-stage approach, with induction, stabilization and maintenance steps at its core. Clients in this detox program receive an individualized treatment regimen and an assigned psychiatrist to oversee their recovery.
A two-week Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is also available Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 2:30 pm, for those who require additional care after an inpatient stay. The facility’s Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is also comprehensive, offering a 12-step model to aid clients in recovery without the time dedication of an inpatient stay. The program generally last around four to six weeks and requires three hours of attendance on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Both morning and evening sessions are available to accommodate those clients for whom flexibility is an issue. The program provides intake and court assessments, an individualized treatment plan, toxicology screenings, as well as group therapy and access to psychoeducational support groups. On-site AA meetings are also available.
Arrowhead’s staff includes three psychiatrists, two family doctors, nurses, pharmacists and Master’s-level therapists.
Extras
As well as its core inpatient and outpatient services, Arrowhead offers an older adult residential treatment, which tailors itself towards the needs of older clients. It is important to note, however, that this program does not provide Alzheimer’s or dementia care.
Arrowhead also offers transportation to and from its facility for those outpatient clients living within a 20-mile radius.

Arrowhead Mental Health is a well-established facility that boasts decades of experience and a wide variety of programs. Those in the Toledo area would be hard-pressed not to find a support option that meets their needs. The facility offers the kind of quality care that is worth the investment, and plenty of options tailored to meet the needs of each individual.
