Ark Counseling Review
Ark Counseling is a privately owned company located Plymouth, Minnesota, a large suburb just 15 miles west of Minneapolis. The facility has been in operation for 10 years, providing outpatient counseling for mental health issues and chemical dependency for anyone over 18 years old. In addition to standard outpatient services, Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are available as well, with counselors certified to treat co-occurring disorders.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment at Ark Counseling begins with an evaluation, available by appointment five days a week, day or night. After the initial interview, the counselor verifies the information given by interviewing at least two people the client knows; this also includes parole officers and other professionals whenever necessary. It’s worth noting, Ark does not offer any sort of detox or crisis-level mental health/chemical dependency provisions.
Regular outpatient treatment generally requires group therapy one to two times a week whereas the IOP meets three to five times per week. Individual therapy is also available, though it is not always required for every client. Seeing as how each person’s treatment is individualized, program lengths vary but the outpatient curriculum generally run for 13 to 15 weeks.
There are both morning and evening groups available, all co-ed with no more than 16 at a time in a group setting, available five days a week to accommodate clients’ schedules. Group therapy meets for three hours per session with morning sessions at 10 am and evening sessions at 6:30 pm. There is also an aftercare group that meets on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 9 pm for those transitioning out of a program. Ark Counseling is abstinence-based and random urinalysis tests are conducted regularly. Alongside CBT, the facility utilizes the 12-step system but tailors the approach to each person’s unique circumstances. There is no minimum outside meeting attendance requirement.
There are six counselors on staff, most of whom are female though one is male. Credentials vary though all hold Master’s-level degrees. Among the staff are LADCs and LPCs, accreditations that qualify them to help individuals with both mental health and chemical dependency issues.

Ark Counseling offers outpatient services tailored to each individual. Though the programs are fairly lean and limited to basic treatment modalities, the facility offers a range of flexible programming for those with addiction and co-occurring disorders.
