Arizona’s Children AssociationArizona’s Children Association Review

The Arizona’s Children Association has been around since 1912, founded to take care of homeless and neglected children. They have expanded over time to meet the demands of the community, opening multiple locations. Today, ACA is one of the oldest and largest child welfare and behavioral health non-profit organizations in Arizona. ACA offers a wide range of services to help children in need.

The organization provides outpatient treatment for children suffering from alcohol and substance abuse in addition to services such as foster care, adoption, parenting classes, family reunification services and behavioral health counseling. ACA runs transitional living facilities for young adults ages 16-21 who have been in foster care and need help transitioning into independent living.

Treatment and Staff

The ACA substance abuse program consists only of individual therapy. The frequency of sessions per week and length of each client’s treatment is highly individualized, determined by the counselor and client during initial intake and evaluated throughout the program as needed. To meet with a counselor for initial intake, clients can visit any location between 8:30 to 11 am on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. During this session, potential clients talk to intake clinicians to go over their history and needs, after which a counseling plan can be developed. For those in need of additional assistance or treatment not offered through ACA like group therapy or inpatient care, they can be referred to a more appropriate facility.

ACA’s two main locations are in Phoenix and Tucson. They have many other location all around Arizona including Coolidge, Surprise, Flagstaff, Lake Havasu, Yuma, Sierra Vista, Nogales, Apache Junction, Buckeye and Chandler. With over 13 behavioral health locations, each counselor holds different credentials. Still, all counselors at ACA must hold a Master’s degree in mental health, professional counseling, social work or marriage and family therapy. Though not every single counselor may have obtained a license, all must at least be in the process of obtaining one.

Extras

ACA only works with those covered under Arizona’s state insurance, which renders their services free of charge. This also means that the facility does not accept any private insurance or self-pay methods.

ACA is the largest foster care provider in all of Arizona, training foster care families and collaborating with outside adoption agencies which enables them to provide a range of adoption services for families wanting to adopt either internationally, privately or from the foster care system. They also offer what they call “child haven,” located in Yavapai County, this program offers support to families who need simple resources like clothing, diapers, formula and safety items. The ACA is dedicated to helping children in anyway they can so they offer many programs to help.

In Summary

The Arizona’s Children Association is an organization that passionately helps children however they can. Because ACA offers such a wide range of services, substance abuse is not necessarily their specialty. Still, the organization has many locations throughout Arizona, which offers potential clients lots of freedom to choose. ACA offers a range of specialized services for children in need.
