The Basics
Located in North Brunswick, New Jersey, Antonia Maria Foundation is a broad non-profit organization that provides life skills classes, counseling and temporary housing to women in New Jersey struggling with substance abuse and other behavioral health issues. Antonia Maria is for women only and offers flexible care planning and wraparound skills as well.
Accommodations and Food
The home that Antonia Maria Foundation runs is called Gracie’s House and has a total of four bedrooms, housing eight to 12 residents at any given time. Each of the rooms is shared between several women and comes with twin beds, dressers, bedside tables and basic decorations throughout. As a normal residential home, the house also has shared common areas with TV, a dining room, therapy areas and a fully-equipped kitchen. Throughout their stay, all residents are served three meals a day by on-staff chefs.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning a program, all participants go through an initial intake and assessment process to help the staff members determine their needs and their treatment history. Though the facility does not offer medical detox services, those in need can get referrals as necessary.
Though each program may differ somewhat, residents generally attend morning meditation groups as well as additional holistic care groups focused on mindfulness, Reiki and breath work. Beyond that, clients also participate in various volunteer and work groups outside the home throughout the week as well. All residents also attend regular 12-step groups throughout the program as well as life skills groups focused on anger management, personal budgeting, job skill and finding housing.
While extensive dual diagnosis support is not available, clients can get referrals to nearby clinics for additional services. The staff at Antonia Maria Foundation consists of case managers, house managers, volunteers, LMFTs, LCSWs and additional Master’s-level counselors.
Extras
As mentioned, all programs include individualized care planning and variable lengths of stay. Once residents complete a primary care regimen, they can work with staff members to develop stepped down aftercare plans as necessary. Those who aren’t staying in the home can also work with the organization on finding a job and receiving basic counseling.

Overall, the Antonia Maria Foundation is an organization providing flexible and affordable housing services to women in New Jersey. The program is something of a blend between addiction treatment and sober housing, with participants attending therapy and holistic groups while volunteering in the local community.
