Another Choice Another Chance Review
Another Choice Another Chance has been around since 1987, offering not just substance abuse treatment but numerous other recovery and therapy services as well. Located in California’s capital, Sacramento, ACAC offers a day program as well as basic outpatient and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). With programs for young people and families, ACAC treats the whole family system.
Treatment and Staff
ACAC’s basic outpatient program is for clients in need of treatment with less structure than the IOP. Clients attend one weekly three-hour session that is either group therapy or educational seminars that cover topics such as mental health, trauma counseling and employment training.
The IOP consists of three hours of treatment per day, three days a week with sessions available in the evenings so clients may still meet school or work obligations. All sessions incorporate CBT, individual therapy and educational seminars to insure an all-encompassing approach to treatment and recovery. Holistic aspects are also included in the program such as mindfulness training and meditation.
The residential day treatment program is a misnomer; designed for those who need a heavily structured, full-time program without the need for housing, this track more closely resembles a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP). While accommodations are not provided, the intensive program consists of six hours of treatment per day, five days a week. During that six-hour period, clients will have individual and group therapy, educational seminars, experiential therapy, and other additional care including holistic aspects and treatment for co-occurring disorders. The day program also incorporates care for mental health and illnesses, as they go hand in hand with addiction and substance abuse.
The staff at ACAC consists of clinical psychologists, LPCs, CADCs, and LSWs.
Extras
In addition to their range of substance abuse recovery programs, ACAC also offers trauma services and programming, mental health care services, prevention programs for adolescents and youth and referral services for those seeking further resources.

ACAC’s variety of outpatient services and programs makes them an excellent choice for those seeking substance abuse treatment in the Sacramento area. Clients have access to three levels of treatment and based on individual circumstances are enrolled into the program that best suits their needs. By using traditional treatment methods combined with holistic practices, ACAC is ideal for individuals needing comprehensive treatment but who cannot enroll in a residential program.
