Anchorage RecoveryAnchorage Recovery Review

Anchorage Recovery is a full service recovery facility that provides residential and outpatient treatment programs for drug and alcohol abuse with a specialization in co-occurring disorders. Located in Moorhead, Minnesota, Anchorage is situated just over the state line from Fargo, North Dakota and provides service to those in the area who are struggling with addiction.

Accommodations and Food

Anchorage’s co-ed inpatient facility is in a refurbished strip mall. Anchorage provides double rooms for everyone. Clients allowed to redecorate rooms to make them their own, provided it doesn’t do permanent damage to the rooms. Anchorage has room for 16 with most clients sharing with a roommate, though there are also two single rooms available for no extra charge. The facility has TVs in the living room and dining room which residents are allowed to watch during free time. Smoking is allowed in designated areas and cell phones are allowed as well, though phones are taken away overnight and during group meetings.

A continental breakfast is served with options including cereal, bagels and yogurt. Lunch and dinner are prepared daily by kitchen staff. Both are served hot, buffet-style in the dining room.

Treatment and Staff

Daily treatment for Anchorage residents begins with a 9 am morning meditation followed by breakfast and educational classes. Between meals clients attend group therapy while at night they have the option of free time or attending optional 12-step meetings. Residents are encouraged to find sponsors and attend at least three off-site meetings per week, with transportation provided.

Monday nights are reserved for family therapy, where clients’ family members are encouraged to sit in on therapy sessions. Individual therapy occurs on a weekly basis for most, though the frequency can vary client-to-client depending on their needs. CBT is the primary methodology used in therapy sessions. The length of Anchorage’s inpatient program depends on each individual, though the most common lengths of stay are 30, 60 or 90 days.

Anchorage also offers an outpatient program for those seeking less intensive care, or for those coming out of inpatient treatment. Outpatient requires clients to attend group therapy two to three times a week as well as attendance of at least two outside self-help meetings per week. Most clients attend 12-step meetings to fulfill this requirement, though other self-help groups are accepted as well. Individual therapy is also a part of the program, though frequency varies by client.

Anchorage’s staff includes licensed addiction counselors, LPCCs, LADCs and LPCs. In addition to the counselors, there is also a medical director, a registered nurse and a licensed dietician. There are also two staff members on duty overnight to provide around the clock support at all times.

Extras

On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, Anchorage provides transportation to the local YMCA for clients to exercise for a few hours each day.

In Summary

Anchorage Recovery provides both inpatient and outpatient programs with structure, but not much harsh discipline. In all, Anchorage is a good fit for those in need of a lenient program with varying levels of intensity. Those who are highly motivated to stay clean and have a sense of autonomy would do well at Anchorage Recovery.
